Brian Magnus

Brian has been the Senior Pastor at Parkwood Gardens since 1988. Prior to that he pastored churches in Fort Erie, ON and Toronto. His gifts include teaching and leadership, but he also enjoys worship and music. Brian has been married to Lynette since 1982 and they have five fantastic children: David, Heather, Holly, Wendy and Christopher. Born into a pastoral family, Brian grew up in the Niagara Region and Detroit, Michigan. He received Christ in Stevensville, ON at a young age, and has enjoyed learning to follow Jesus and lead God's people in the years since then. Brian holds a Bachelor of Theology degree from Emmanuel Bible College and a Masters degree from Huntington University. Brian has spoken at conferences and seminars in Canada, the U.S. and internationally, including locations from California to Florida to Pennsylvania. He is the Bishop of the United Brethren Church in Canada and also the Chairman of the United Brethren in Christ, International's Executive Committee (the Cabinet of Bishops).

Jim was born in Toronto and it was there at the age of 14 that he met Jesus Christ personally. His life has never been the same. He's ruined for the everyday and loving it! Most of his theological education came at Emmanuel Bible College in Kitchener but he was fortunate to also study at Ontario Bible College (Tyndale) and Campus Crusade's International School of Theology. His background includes passport photography, radio broadcasting, comic book sales, being a zoo guide and a variety of mission and youth ministry experience. Jim and his wonderful wife, Bonnie began as Youth Pastors at Parkwood Gardens in 1994 and in 2004 he transitioned into being Discipleship Pastor. His ministries include nurturing and leading our small group leaders, preaching, supporting our Christian Ed department, Outreach, Making Godspace spiritual formation events, Operation Christmas Child (PG is the Guelph Collection Centre) and denominationally he is the Director of Student Ministries. Some of the most fun Jim can imagine is being the dad to his three enchanting, energetic little girls. They teach him a lot. For additional challenge, Jim enjoys spiritual disciplines and reading. Authors who challenge and encourage Jim include Brennan Manning, Mike Yaconelli, Henri Nouwen, Erwin McManus, Phil Wagler, and Hugh Halter. Jim also enjoys expressing himself through standup comedy and writing.

Mike Dell

Pastor of Spiritual Care

Mike resides in Guelph and is married to his wonderful wife Gilda. He is the father of a daughter Jennifer and a son Justin. He holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees in science and has been a business executive in the pharmaceutical industry for over 33 years. Mike was born and raised in the Niagara Peninsula and accepted the LORD at age eleven. He was particularly influenced in his Christian walk by his Aunt Betty who was a missionary to Nigeria with the Sudan Interior Mission. Recently he graduated from Emmanuel Bible College with a Bachelor's Degree in Pastoral Studies, and in 2009 he was appointed to the position of Pastor of Spiritual Care at Parkwood Gardens in Guelph. Mike also serves as the denominational head of the Leadership Development.

Bonnie Tice

Youth Pastor

Bonnie has been youth pastoring at this church for 17 years, since 1994, which is one year after she married her wonderful husband, Jim. Born and raised in Kitchener, her passion for seeing people move closer to Jesus was encouraged as a teenager by her pastor at her home church. A graduate of Tyndale University College (formerly O.B.C.), Bonnie especially loves to nurture leaders among adults and students. When she’s not working with youth, she’s an avid rec hockey player and enjoys her other calling of being mom for her three girls.

Elissa Bridges

Elissa was born and raised in Guelph. She has been attending Parkwood Gardens since 2002. Elissa holds a Bachelor of Arts from Huntington University in Indiana, as well as a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. Elissa chose Jesus as her personal Saviour as a Junior Youth. As a result, Elissa holds a strong passion for ministering to youth. In 2009 Elissa very excitedly accepted the role of Associate Youth Pastor at Parkwood Gardens. Elissa also works as a substitute teacher for the Waterloo District School Board, and as the Camp Coordinator for United Brethren Youth Camps.

Lynette Magnus

Worship & Music Pastor

Lynette has been a Worship and Music Director at Parkwood Gardens since 1999. She enjoys using music, drama, scripture, prayer, visual arts and testimonies to praise and worship God while building up the people of God. Music speaks into the secret places of the heart. Lynette is married to Brian and they have five wonderful children: David, Heather, Holly, Wendy and Christopher. Born and raised in a small town in Indiana where she received Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour at a young age. Her love of music was fostered by her mother who was and is a church pianist. Lynette studied piano for 9 years and flute for 7 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Huntington University in Indiana. Lynette also teaches a ladies Bible study. Her passion is seeing the Word of God empower, heal and build up the lives of women.

Karen Dykstra

Children's Ministry Pastor

Karen has been attending Parkwood Gardens Church since 1995. She has been involved in various children's ministries during this time. Vacation Bible Camp has been one of her favourites! Karen asked Jesus into her life in 1986 while she was studying Child Studies at the University of Guelph. Karen and her husband Mark have two daughters, Amy and Alysha. Karen enjoys many sports including biking, hiking, swimming, tennis and skiing.

Elizabeth Kraemer

Administrative Assistant

Liz devoted her life to Jesus at the age of 18. She studied theology at Ontario Bible College (now Tyndale University) and psychology at the University of Guelph. She started attending Parkwood Gardens Church in September 1996 and quickly became involved in the music ministry there. She served on the Administrative Board as Chair of the Worship Commission for many years before accepting the position of Administrative Assistant in January 2008. She is passionate about singing harmony in the worship team and has been privileged to direct many Christmas musicals over her years at Parkwood. She enjoys reading, hanging out with her friends on Friday nights, and loves anything chocolate. She lives in Guelph with her beloved husband, Bernie, and their little dog, Maestro. She has been blessed with three beautiful daughters and their husbands: Lisa (RJ), Sarah (Matthew) and Leanne (James).
